Information Management Officer & Applications Integrator Team Leader [June 31, 2000 - October 13, 2003]
Regional Information Technology System Center, Oahu Based Area Network, Peal Harbor, HI
My last assignment, prior to falling the victim of a
reduction in force, with this organization was the Information Management
Team Leader, and I had 5 individuals, contractors and civil service, working
for me. We were responsible for Application Development, Testing
and Software Integration for the organization. As we received
requests for software or applications, we would review the request to see if
there was something being used already that could perform the same functions
the customers required, and if not, we would approve the purchase of the
software they were requesting, or we would develop an application (i.e.
database or web application) that would fit the customers' needs. Once
the software or application was available, we would test it on a stand alone
mirrored network to ensure it would work without causing any conflicts.
Once it was working we would initiate the accreditation documentation to get
it approved to operate on our network. When it was approved, we would
install the software or application on the customers' workstation and
provide training as required. Worked as a
Network Manager in a Windows NT 4.0 environment
which supported
over 5,000 customers, over 8,000 nodes on an ATM
infrastructure. I was responsible for all the Web Servers, SQL Servers,
VTC Servers, and Antivirus Servers within the Organization.
Monitored these servers on a daily basis to ensure they remained
operational. As problems arose took immediate
action to resolve the problems, and got servers operational as quickly as
possible to allow only minimal downtime.
During scheduled downtime, modified,
tweaked, or made repairs to servers as needed to allow for optimal
performance from the servers. Took preventive measures by monitoring
event logs, web server logs, and security logs to identify problems before
they happened. Monitored
server backups to ensure the backups were successful in the event
of a disaster, so the information could be restored from a point in time
backup. Checked the websites
daily for new antivirus updates, and if there were new updates downloaded the
updates and posted them to our system by placing them in a unique location and
modifying logon scripts so that when users logged onto the network the new virus
updates were pushed down to their workstations. Used NetIQ to monitor the health of the network so that it remained operational at
all times, and took immediate action when a problem was reported to get it
back up and running as soon as possible. As a
LAN Administrator created, modified, or removed user accounts from Windows NT
and Microsoft Exchange. Monitored
the Exchange Servers to ensure messages were passed back and forth without
incident, and when an incident occurred took immediate action to restore the
servers so messages were passing back and forth again. As a Help Desk Technician, answered
telephone calls from customers seeking assistance with computer problems. Assisted the customer over the phone
whenever possible, and if the problem could not be resolved in a timely manner assisted the customer in placing a trouble ticket in our
Remedy Help Desk Application. In
addition, monitored queues in Remedy Help Desk and assisted customers with
their tickets by remotely connecting to customer’s workstation using SMS and
resolving their problems. Part of the orientation to the organization
required working in building/staging to learning how workstations were built
and deployed to customers.
Also worked with field engineers and went out and made
onsite repairs on systems that could not be remotely accessed. Provide training to new employees to
familiarize them with the daily operations within our organization.
